3 Beautiful Things You're Missing Without a CMS

A CMS, as it relates to web design, is a content management system. Not every website has one, and if yours is missing a CMS, you may not realize what you're missing. Talk to a business owner or administrator who's made the change, however, and you can get a pretty good idea of why every website we create is built with content management included.

Video of DrupalCon Denver Keynote from Luke Wroblewski

While attending DrupalCon 2012 in Denver last week, select members of our team were able to participate in a number of industry-significant events and sessions. Among them was the following keynote presentation from Luke Wroblewski, which makes a smart (and timely) case for mobile design. More to the point, Luke's speech points to a strategy of "mobile first" that we'll hopefully see implemented worldwide in the near future.

Upcoming Drupal and Magento Events

August Ash is excited to be attending two important upcoming industry events, and we want to spread the word to others who may also be interested.

In March, we'll be in Colorado for the annual Drupalcon event, held in Denver March 19th through the 23rd. Check out the Drupalcon site for more details, updated blog posts, and information on attending.

Upgrading to Drupal 7: What's at Stake

Over the last several months, our Drupal developers have been looking closer at the process of upgrading websites from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7.

In short, it's been reaffirmed that, due to the extremely modular nature of Drupal, an upgrade can be a daunting task.  If all the modules for a particular website have good "upgrade paths," (meaning those modules are easily scalable for new updates), the upgrade process could go smoothly.

New Launch: Stuff The Boss Says

August Ash is excited to announce the launch of a brand new site that's as fun to visit and follow as it is poignant. Stuff The Boss Says is designed as a posting board for visitors to read the outrageous, and usually dumb, things other visitors have heard their bosses say.

Not only can visitors read and vote on submissions, but anyone can post their own free and easily.

Putting the Call Out for Drupal Programmers

August Ash has a current opening for a full-time, on-site Drupal programmer. We're looking for someone who's ready to develop and perform maintenance on our custom web applications built with Drupal. If you're interested in learning more, head over to our Drupal Programmer job opening page where you'll find a full job description, requirements for the position, and an online application can be found on the job page.

Likewise, if you know someone who is appreciates executing great work, and is skilled with Drupal, help us spread the word.

August Ash a Platinum Sponsor for Upcoming DrupalCamp Twin Cities 2011

If you know August Ash very well, or have even spent a little time on our site, you probably know by now that we do quite a bit of work with the Drupal CMS platform.

We like Drupal for a host of reasons, but primarily because it's a great way to build sites that our customers can update and change on their own. And we're not alone. Even the White House uses Drupal.

Updated DrupalCon Recap

August Ash has had some of our Minneapolis Drupal developers in Chicago all week participating in DrupalCon 2011. Day Two of DrupalCon Chicago (Wednesday) was an intense day full of interesting sessions. Today, we're sharing a little more of what they've seen so far:

  • The morning began with Clay Shirky talking about the evolution of the Internet. We as web developers have done our part in changing society through the Web, and it was interesting to reflect on that.
