But for all our perpetual fascination with Google as SEOs (search engine optimizers), what of Google's awareness of us? The search giant knows we're here; it witnesses our handy work in all forms and in all corners of the Internet. Wouldn't it be interesting to know what Google thinks of SEOs?
Well, thanks to an often-overlooked document within Google's Webmaster Tools support database, we're able to pull back the veneer a bit, and read, in Google's own words, how it views those who seek to help websites rank higher. And what you'll read may surprise you.
Google Appreciates Good SEO
Despite recent confusing (and apparently, conflicting) remarks made by Google's Jonathan Rockway, Google has no inherent ill-will towards experts whose jobs are to help websites be found higher in the search results. In fact, Google has gone on record with a few statements about SEO that we, personally, are happy to agree with:
- "Deciding to hire an SEO is a big decision that can potentially improve your site and save time, but you can also risk damage to your site and reputation." We couldn't have said it better ourselves. Like any other industry, there are good SEOs, and then there are SEOs that embarrass the rest of us. Google is right to encourage website owners to do their research before partnering with someone for Internet Marketing.
- "Useful services..." include "...content development... keyword research... and... SEO training." If that list of useful services sounds familiar, you may have recently talked with someone on the August Ash Internet Marketing team, because we put a lot of our time and effort into this part of our work. While other SEOs will be happy to crank out 50 tweets for you, or submit your site to 100,000 free online directories, we'll be working with our heads down, trying to help your team improve its content strategy. Another example of where hard work pays off.
- "If you're thinking about hiring an SEO, the earlier the better." We can't stress this one enough, and it's nice to see Google helping educate the masses. We love being there when website owners first understand their need for experienced SEO help; we like to see that light bulb appear over their heads. What's not as exciting is the realization that, for so long, nothing was done to create or maintain the site's SEO momentum. SEO is a little like saving for retirement. Everyone wishes they had started sooner.
August Ash has spent years building our SEO and Internet Marketing on the most dependable and ethical practices in the industry. We invite you to learn more about our Internet marketing services, and our team. And if you have questions, we're happy to share more. Just let us know.
