South Lyndale Liquor has been a South Minneapolis institution for decades. Known for their handpicked selection of liquor, wine, spirits and beer, they’ve been the place for thirsty Minnesotans to stop at all times of the day and evening. We’ve been privileged to be a partner of them as a part of their web development and strategic digital marketing for over a year.
The owner of South Lyndale Liquor saw the customer and business changes coming weeks in advance. Working together, we were able to quickly adapt to improve their digital presence, ecommerce, and customer options, for the ever shifting changes and serve their community better by engaging a partner and taking calculated risks.
Like every retail store, South Lyndale Liquor is adapting quickly to the current COVID-19 situation, with new goals and challenges changing day by day. They want to serve both their customers as well as protect their employees from this infectious disease, and with Minnesota officially entering a “shelter in place” situation in late March, new processes and systems were needed.
Throughout the course of our partnership, we’ve revamped their existing Magento website, integrating with their Point of Sale system, allowing them to quickly add products and control inventory for online ordering, in-store pickup, and delivery. The addition of “Rapid Parking Lot Pickup” gives customers the option to place their order online or phone call, and drive into the parking lot. New banners and messaging throughout the site and during checkout, have been developed together, emphasizing the convenience of their checkout and pickup time. We’ve also added the option to digitally tip the driver for deliveries, which has further reduced the risk and improved customer expectations.
In addition, South Lyndale Liquor has embraced fully the social aspect of social media. Customers are able to send a direct message on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms with questions to the staff about which products are in stock, and even place their order. This new process will greatly increase their capability to serve both their customers and protect their employees.
As a result of their new web presence and strategic marketing, South Lyndale Liquor has been successful at converting their brick and mortar sales to online sales, and digital sales are up over 400% from the historical average! A lot of web pickup orders have been processed, and they’ve found new ways to serve the local customers.
